Can the smoking ban affect tourism?

Hello.

As everybody knows, the Spanish government, like others in Europe, passed a new smoking ban a few months ago, and we could write here about the advantages and disadvantages of this related to tourism. Can this ban affect tourism?

Come on, write here in English about the possible consequences of this measure. I don't want you to write about Politics, just to write about advantages or disadvantages. Here you can read about this law on the Internet.

  1. I’m not sure about the advantages of this law. I think it has more disadvantages than advantages, of course for the cafes, bars and restaurants´ owners. For example, in restaurants there were a smoking and a non smoking section, then when I went to a restaurant I specified “Non smoking section, please” and all was ok. The person who wanted to smoke didn’t disturb me. Besides the restaurants owners had to spend a lot of money to make improvements for these different sections.
In cafes and bars, the situation is worse. The owners say that the volume of sales has dropped about 40% (invented), and of course it would caused the laid off 500 workers (invented). In my opinion, Spanish like going to the bar and having a beer or a coffee, talking with friends and smoking a cigarette, it’s a relax time. And now it’s a stress time, if you want to smoke you have to go out and left your coffee and your non smokers friends inside. I’m a non smoker person but yes some friends or family and since this law is in force we don’t go to bares, it’s uncomfortable for us.

Please tell me the mistakes. Thank you

  2. Hi Celia

"there was a ..." we need the singular because it's singular. "it will cause 500 workers were laid off" Remember to use an infinitive after "will, would.." and "workers" before "laid off"

"Spanish people... / The Spanish .... / Spaniards..." "a relaxing time..." "stressing time.." "some friends or relatives are "

It's very good, so don't worry and go on writing, because you are doing very well.

  3. you shouldn´t use possessive case for things ."restaurants´ owners" is not O.K.
You´d better say: "the owners of restaurants".
